In a recent press release, Kumari District Collector Sridhar has urged the public to embrace a smoke-free Pongal celebration.
Traditionally, the Bhogi festival, celebrated on the eve of Pongal, involves burning unnecessary items in homes, symbolizing the removal of the old and welcoming the new. However, the practice of burning old materials during Bhogi festival has led to air pollution and the release of toxic gases, impacting the well-being of the community.
In light of these concerns, the District Collector has appealed to the public to refrain from burning old items during the Bhogi festival. The collective cooperation of the community is sought to protect air quality and ensure a healthier and environmentally conscious celebration.
