

Kanyakumari: A child-friendly room for the benefit of children and babies brought to the Kanyakumari district court was inaugurated on the premises of the combined court in Nagercoil on Saturday. The room that can accommodate 10 children at a time was established by the district child protection unit.
District child protection officer M Kumuda said principal district and sessions judge (PDJ), M Gomathinayagam mooted the idea. “It is primarily aimed at benefiting child victims who come to testify before the court,” she said. The room, decorated with pictures of animals, birds and also has play items to keep the children engaged. A cradle, rocking chair and mats are among other amenities provided. “We will be tying up with an NGO for maintenance of the room and attending to the needs of the children,” Kumuda said.
